The Department of Dentistry provides clinical care for children and adolescents with complex medical and dental problems which may prevent them from obtaining dental care safely elsewhere.We provide preventive, restorative and some orthodontic services under local and general anaesthesia along with routine dental care.Given the highly specialist nature of the Department of Dentistry, eligibility criteria exist which must be met before patients are able to be accepted for care.
The Department of Dentistry has a close relationship with the Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery in order to co-ordinate clinical care for children with cleft lip and palate and/or children who require Maxillofacial or Craniofacial surgery.
The Department of Dentistry provides clinical care in order to optimise the oral health of children and enhance knowledge and understanding of the medically and physically compromised child through research, teaching and collaboration with other health care professionals.
The Department of Dentistry aims to be an internationally renowned centre of excellence in the management of children with specific medical, dental and orofacial problems.
